How many LONGi Hi-MO panels does my load need?

The answer comes back as a count of LONGi modules. Answers it has already given — apartment, evening backup: 6 panels (3.3 kWp); house, grid-tied: 11 panels (6.1 kWp); villa, off-grid: 22 panels (12.1 kWp) — are each worked through on a page of their own. Your own list of appliances will land between those marks, or past them.

What the calculator counts, and in which LONGi module

What the calculator hands back on this site is an array. Enter the appliances and the hours each one runs; the day's kilowatt-hours become a figure in kWp, and that figure is divided into Hi-MO X10 Guardian LR7-60HVHL 550W modules (1990 × 1134 mm, 16.3 kg) — of the 234 LONGi listings, the one closest to 550 W. Next to the array the result prints an inverter rating in kW and, where backup was asked for, a storage rating in kWh. Neither is a model: the LONGi catalogue of this store is modules and nothing else.

Any other module can stand in for it: array watts divided by power class, rounded up. Counted in the Hi-MO 9 Edge LR8-66HYD 670W, the same array needs fewer panels, each 2382 mm long; the EcoLife LR7-54HJD 510W packs the most watts into a square metre of roof, and the Hi-MO X10 Guardian LR7-60HVHL loads each square metre least. Opening a module from the result shows the table these numbers are read from and what one panel costs, and our store in Dubai or Riyadh is where the modules change hands. Take the output as a first sizing: string layout, protection and mounting are for the installer who certifies the system where you live.

Arrays already counted, and the modules behind them

6 series, 234 models: Hi-MO X10 at 480–670 W, Hi-MO 9 at 625–670 W, Hi-MO X6 at 415–630 W, Hi-MO 7 at 440–625 W, Hi-MO 5 at 405–565 W and EcoLife at 475–510 W. Every module is 1134 mm wide and between 1722 and 2382 mm long.

One module is priced at AED 251–416; spread over its power class that is close to AED 0.621 a watt in every series, so the module cost of an array is roughly its watts multiplied by that figure.

Worked through for a 10 kWp array: 19 × Hi-MO X10 Guardian LR7-60HVHL 550W — 42.9 m² of glass, 310 kg, AED 6,479; 15 × Hi-MO 9 Edge LR8-66HYD 670W — 40.5 m² of glass, 536 kg, AED 6,240; 20 × EcoLife LR7-54HJD 510W — 40.8 m² of glass, 470 kg, AED 6,340. The watts are the same in all three; the number of modules to carry up, the glass and the load on the roof are not.

Counting LONGi panels: a house, an air conditioner

How many LONGi solar panels does a house need?

It follows the day's kilowatt-hours, not the floor area. Counted in the Hi-MO X10 Guardian LR7-60HVHL 550W for a night of backup — apartment, 13.8 kWh a day: 6 panels (3.3 kWp) on about 16 m² of roof; house, 25.4 kWh a day: 11 panels (6.1 kWp) on about 29 m² of roof; villa, 49.5 kWh a day: 20 panels (11 kWp) on about 52 m² of roof. Your own list of appliances moves the count up or down from there.

How many solar panels does it take to run an air conditioner?

The air conditioner is one line of the calculator's list: 1,200 W running for 8 hours, 9.6 kWh of the day, with a choice of unit size. It is never counted alone — the array is sized for everything on the list together. As worked examples, the apartment list runs one air conditioner among its appliances and comes to 6 panels; the villa list runs 4 air conditioners among its appliances and comes to 20 panels. Tick the air conditioner with whatever else you run and the answer is a count of Hi-MO X10 Guardian LR7-60HVHL 550W modules.
